Steers begin 2011 campaign

August 2, 2011

The Big Spring Steers began two-a-day practices today at the ATC. Steers Head Coach Phillip Ritchey and his coaching staff began the day by running the players through basic warm-up routines, before breaking them down into individual skill stations.

The large group of football players took the field in a run and never slowed down during the practice, even when the sun started to get high in the sky and the temperatures got even higher. Each drill was finished with the players yawping, ”Win!”

The Steers’ first game will be a scrimmage game against Andrews Aug. 13. That game will be played at 10 a.m. in Andrews. The Steers will host a scrimmage game against Lubbock Estacado Aug. 19. The starting time for that game has not yet been determined.

The regular season will open with the Steers at home, as they face the Fort Stockton Panthers Aug. 26.

Big Spring’s homecoming game will be against Greenwood Sept. 30, with district action starting the following week in an Oct. 7 clash with Brownwood.
