WOODROW â€” A fourth quarter rally would fall short for Lubbock Cooper, as Big Spring held on for a wild 59-57 win Tuesday night.
The Steers were led by Marc Segundo in the non-district game with 18 points. Chazzell Robertson added 12 for Big Spring as well in the winning effort.
Big Spring outscored Lubbock in the first three quarters to take a 44-36 lead into the game's final frame, while holding Cooper to 12 points in each of the first three frames, Big Spring scored 16, 15 and 13 respectively.
Ty'ral Menefield scored10 points for the Steers, while Tavaris Walker registered eight. Tyler Graves added three points and Tyler Wigington was good for four.
Cooper would score a game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough to cap the comeback. The Steers added 15 of their own points to stay just ahead of the rally and claim the win.
Segundo drained five 3-pointers in the game for the Steers, while Walker added two.
The 9-12 Steers will be on the road again Friday night as they travel to Levelland for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.
In JV action, Big Spring fell to Cooper 45-52.
ABILENE â€” In their final game before district starts Friday, the Lady Steers rolled past Abilene High for a 58-49 win Tuesday night at Eagle Gym.
Cerbi Ritchey led the Lady Steers with 14 points as Big Spring scored double digits in every quarter to combat an early Abilene High win.
Abilene jumped out to a 13-10 lead after one period, but the Lady Steers defense held strong in the second, allowing only five points, while scoring a game high 18 of their own. The 28-18 halftime lead would hold, though the Eagles tried to make a run of it late. Abilene outscored Big Spring 18-16 in the third quarter, but the Lady Steers added to their lead in the fourth to clinch the victory.
Bridgette Tuitt scored 13 points in the game. Mackenzie Stone added 11 points, which included all three of Big Spring's 3-pointers.
Also making the scoreboard light up were Dyrshae Vanderbilt and Diamond Mayes with four points, Yaneria Tuitt with seven, Logan Yarbar with three and Ambra Hill with two.
Ritchey grabbed six rebounds,Yaneria Tuitt had five and Mayes snagged four. Also making the stat sheet were Bridgett Tuitt with five steals.Vanderbilt had four.
The 16-5 Lady Steers will start district play Friday, when they host Abilene Wylie at Steer Gym. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.View more articles in:
