Strickland joins Eye Associates

July 9, 2011

It's a profession he stumbled into, but one he has come to enjoy.
Clipper Strickland, the new optometrist at The Eye Associates, was attending McMurry University when he just happened to go into optometry. After receiving his bachelor of science degree at McMurry, he continued his education at the Univeristy of Houston College of Optometry.
“There's really no profound story on how I came to be in this profession,” Strickland said. “I just happened to stumble into it and I have enjoyed it ever since.”
West Texas is nothing new to him. He was raised in Merkel and performed part of his training in Midland and at the VA Medical Center in Big Spring.
“There is something about West Texas,” Strickland said. “It has its own type of people — friendly, good people.”
He spent three years working for an opthamologist in Abilene and discovered his passion for the pathology part of optometry before coming to Big Spring.
“I enjoy working with and seeing patients with eye infections,” Strickland said. “It's something different. No case is the same and it's not just routine.”
Strickland will be providing complete eye exams as well as seeing patients with a variety of problems, including cataract co-management, glaucoma and other eye diseases.
“We felt it was time to bring in a new doctor to the practice and Clipper was the perfect choice,” Dr. Ted Seymour said.
The two met when, as an intern, Strickland completed part of his training during a four-month period under Seymour's direction.
“I remember thinking he's going to make the best doctor out of all those we had trained,” Seymour said. “Out of all those we have trained in the past six years he was by far the best, hands downs.”
Stickland and his family plan on making Big Spring their home for years to come.
“We plan on making this a long-term commitment,” Strickland said. “My patients can expect not only personal, complete eye care, but they can expect to be treated like family.”
