Student arrested on terroristic threat charge

October 18, 2013

A Big Spring High School student was arrested for allegedly detailing how he intended to harm or kill Big Spring ISD personnel and students.

Michael Wayne Peterson, 17, 1104.5 Lancaster is free on $1,500 bail after being arrested on a charge of terroristic threat earlier this week.

Big Spring Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Tony Everett said the incident began at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when a journal containing “disturbing information” was found on a BSISD school bus.

“The journal contained disturbing information that involved graphic detail as to how the student would take the life of two teachers at the high school,” Everett said. “It also contained a list of names of students and teachers the author wished to harm.”

Detectives immediately began searching for the journal's author and, at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Peterson was taken into custody at his mother's residence on Lancaster Street, Everett said. Terroristic threat is a Class A misdemeanor which carries a sentence of up to a year in county jail.
