Superintendent search to highlight CISD board meeting

October 10, 2011

COAHOMA — The second in a series of several steps to find a new superintendent at Coahoma Independent School District has been taken.

CISD trustees will take their first look at the list of applicants for the superintendent position when they hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the administration board room.

Ronnie Kinkaid of Abilene, who is spearheading the search process, will meet with trustees in closed session to discuss the applications received for the position.

The position became vacant earlier this year when Dr. Randy Brown resigned to accept a similar position with Snyder ISD.
Friday was the deadline for applications.

Interim Superintendent Gary Harrell said it is likely the position drew a significant number of applicants.

“I think Coahoma has a lot to offer,” Harrell said. “I don't see any reason why it wouldn't get a big response from people.”

Tuesday, trustees will take their first long look at the applicants, then decide how they want to proceed.

“I don't know if they are going to narrow the field Tuesday,” Harrell said. “At this point, they'll probably make a decision on some kind of tentative interview schedule.”

The search process is likely to continue for at least the next couple of months; Harrell estimated that the earliest a new superintendent will be on board would be January.

In other business, trustees will:
• Hold a public hearing on a resolution to tax “in-transit” goods within the school district.
• Consider enrollment and attendance reports.
• Consider routine items such as expenditures, tax collections and check payments.
