Taxes top city agenda

August 11, 2014

Big Spring’s city council will take another step toward firming up a tax rate for the new fiscal year when they meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers, located at 307 E. Fourth St.

At last week’s budget work session, staff proposed a new tax rate of 86.6 cents per $100 valuation, which is almost identical to the rate the city levied under the current budget. Because of a big jump in property valuations, however, the new rate is expected to bring in $826,000 in additional revenue in the next fiscal year.
