Term limits on ballot, wording under study

Big Spring voters will get the chance to weigh in on proposed term limits during municipal elections in May, however, the length of the limits is still up in the air, according to city officials, thanks to conflicts in the amendment's wording.

The Big Spring City Council voted unanimously during a special meeting Monday evening to have the amendment — which was driven by a recent petition spearheaded by the local Concerned Citizens Council — placed on the ballot.

The vote was merely academic, however, as City Finance Director Peggy Walker informed the council during the meeting the petition had garnered the necessary signatures to force the matter before voters, making its addition to the ballot a matter of state law.
