Then and Now is the theme of the 80th Old Settler's Reunion

July 8, 2013

The Old Settler's Reunion Parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Stanton.

STANTON — Then and Now.
That's the theme for the 80th annual Old Settler's Reunion, which will be held Saturday in downtown Stanton.
Then and Now is a fitting theme, organizers say.
“We are celebrating a time of growth and prosperity, as well as remembering our predecessors who made it possible,” said Kristi Peterson, who is helping coordinate the event.
The traditional parade will begin at 10 a.m., and dedicated tof Bob and Mary Haislip, parade marshals for 2013.
Any group, individual or business can enter the parade. Those participating are encouraged to have their entries at the Methodist Church by 9 a.m. In charge of the parade this year will be Terry Smith.
“Everyone is encouraged to participate and be a part of the celebration!” said an enthusiastic Peterson.
Participants are asked to have floats marked for easy identification. Criteria to judge the floats are attractiveness and artistic work, 0-30 points; originality and use of theme, 0-30 points; and amount of work and effort on float, 0-40 points. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first through third place floats. Certificates will be awarded to the best non-theme float and the best class reunion float.
