Thomas M. Yeats Jr., died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at the age of 87. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Cotton and the Rev. Joey Bacon officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Gadsden, Ala., to Thomas M. Yeats Sr. and Faye Yeats. He graduated from Etowah County High School in Gadsden, Ala., in 1942. He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946, serving in the European theater. He moved to Big Spring in 1948. He married Marceline Bryant of Big Spring on Aug. 15, 1948. He began working for Cosden Oil and Chemical Company that same year, and worked at the refinery for more than 40 years. He joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1948 and remained a faithful member until his death. He served as Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: David and Phyllis Yeats of Orange, Texas, Steve and Rita Yeats of Andrews, Texas, and Tim and Tammy Yeats of Big Spring; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Josephine Watts of Gadsden, Ala., and Kathryn Fossett of Elberton, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marceline Yeats in 1995 and one brother, Don Yeats, of Rainbow City, Ala.
