Thomas Vernon Swafford, 91, of Midland, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, in a Midland nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Vernon was born April 10, 1922, in Marshall, Texas. He was a driller in the 1940s and drove a transport truck for the next 40 years. He also owned a small ranch in Paradise, Texas.

He is survived by three sons, Raymond Swafford and wife, Kathy, of Midland, Billy Kenneth Swafford and Larry Swafford and wife, Jennan, all of Big Spring; two brothers, Glen Swafford and wife, Jennie, of Longview, and Ernest Swafford and wife, Alta, of San Angelo; one sister, Mary Ruth Allen, of Marietta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Edna (Baker) Swafford, one brother, Clifford Swafford; two sisters, Elaine Hearne and Justine Oney; and one granddaughter, Cheynne Rainer.

The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
