Thomason files for council

March 15, 2011

The May race for the District 3 seat on the Big Spring City Council got a last minute candidate Monday, as Shannon Thomason — chairman of the local Concerned Citizens Council — tossed his political hat in the ring.

Most recently, Thomason ran unsuccessfully for the mayor's seat on the council in 2010, garnering 153 ballots — 5.34 percent — in his bid for the position. Thomason also ran for the mayoral seat in 2007, losing to longtime mayor Russ McEwen with 467 ballots, accounting for approximately 23 percent of the vote.

Thomason's most recent bid will pit him against District 3 Councilwoman Joann Staulcup — who announced early in the filing process she would run for re-election — as well as political newcomer Glenn Carrigan.
