Time to get your ducks in a row

August 26, 2013

It's the last week to purchase a duck entry for the Second Quacker Challenge, which takes place at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Russ McEwen Family Aquatic Center.
Cost is $5 for each duck entry, or $45 for 10 ducks. Participants can purchase an entry at KBST, Western Bank, United Way, First Christian Church, Great Scott! T-shirts and the Howard County Library. Also, duck entries will be sold beginning at 3 p.m. at the aquatic center for those who want to watch the race.
The ducks — they're plastic, by the way — will shoot down the slide in hopes of floating into one of seven traps set up around the lazy river. Each trap represents a designated prize. Each duck is assigned an individual number ranging from 1 to 1,000, and the tickets also carry the numbers 1 to 1,000. The race will continue until all seven traps have each captured one duck.
The special grand prize for this year's race is a 2013 Ford F-150 XLT. Other prizes include a set of season tickets to the Big Spring Symphony, valued at $125; a free flight on a hang glider in 2014, a $100 value; a set of tickets worth $200 to a Texas Tech football game; a free entry to the 2014 Stars, Cars and Handlebars event, valued at $100; a silver 2013 proof coin set worth $100; and one custom-designed T-shirt a month for one year — 12 shirts in all — from Great Scott! Shirts, valued at $180.
All proceeds from the fund-raiser will be divided evenly between Isaiah 58, the Big Spring Symphony Guild and the Greater Big Spring Rotary Club. There will be activities for children to enjoy as preparations are made to start the race.
