Tommy David Smith

Tommy David Smith, 50, of Venus, Texas, formerly of Ackerly died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at a Fort Worth hospital after illness and injuries sustained in a fall. Services are planned for a later date.

Tommy was born March 7, 1962, in Big Spring to Melvin and Jaymie Smith. He attended Sands School and graduated from Borden County in 1980 and from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1984. He enjoyed carpentry, architecture, making custom furniture and restoring his historic home in Venus, Texas. His favorite pastimes were antiquing with his sister and cousin, Richard White, collecting motorcycles and traveling to Italy.

He is survived by his mother, Jaymie White Smith; one sister, Kay Smith Zant and husband Leslie Zant of Big Spring; one brother, Stan Smith and wife Christy of Ackerly; two nephews, Vance Smith and wife Mandie of Big Spring and Clayton Smith, wife Stacie and their son, Caleb, of Ackerly; cousins, Richard White and Jay White of Fort Worth, Stevan Joe White of Arbuckle, Calif., Sue Ann Smith of Amarillo and Jerry Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; and uncles, Dick White and wife Oneta of Fort Worth and Wayne Smith and wife Geraldine of Temple, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Smith, in 2002.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Big Spring Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Jim’s Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas.
