Tradition continues for BSHS debate team

January 30, 2012

For the ninth time in a row, the Big Spring High School Debate team brought home the University Interscholastic League District Cross-Examination Debate crown.
Bringing home the gold was the team of Seth Trevino and Caleb Gonzales.
“Winning district and going to the UIL CX State Meet is awesome, but I’m also glad that I could continue the tradition of district champions here at BSHS.” Trevino said.
Joining Trevino and Gonzales at the state meet will be the team of Forrest McJunkin and Shiloh Creswell. This will be Creswell’s second year attending the meet.
“Now that I know what is going to happen there, I hope to be ready and do good things at state.” Creswell said.
Placing fourth behind a very good Brownwood team was the Big Spring team of first-year debaters Aaron Rios and Kaegan Baucum. Narrowly missing the semi-finals was the team of Kendra Cook and Belle Guillory.
Coach Jennifer Adams had nothing but positive things to say about her teams.
“We are so excited about all of our teams. We have some great experience going to the state meet and we also have a group of great kids returning that should compete for Big Spring’s 10th cross-examination district championship in a row.”
The run of nine cross-examination district championships started in 2003 with the team of Logan Churchwell and Camilla Painter and has extended across two classifications. (4A and 3A).
The state meet will be held May 21-22 in Austin.
