Trash-Off has youthful look

April 4, 2011

A whole lot of trash makes a huge success.

Saturday was the Don't Mess With Texas annual Trash Off. The turnout included more young people than in past years, according to Trash-Off coordinator Pat Simmons.

“This year was a huge success, especially because of the youth,” said Simmons, member of Keep Big Spring Beautiful, which sponsored the event locally.

Students from the junior high, members of the Big Spring High School student council and the Church of the Nazarene youth group took part. City of Big Spring employees and other residents also helped gather trash and clean up tall grass and weeds around town Saturday morning.

“If we can be mindful of trash all year round,” Simmons said. “Just picking up one piece of trash a day can make a big difference.”
