Trustee OK revised Bible class

Bibles will once again be welcomed at Big Spring High School.

A revamped Bible study class was approved by Big Spring Independent School District trustees during their monthly meeting Thursday night.

District officials say the new course will be more in line with state education code requirements, but a critic said it will be a “watered down” version of the course that has been taught at the school for decades.

The new course will change the class' focus from a humanities/historical focus to that of a social studies curriculum. “The curriculum is going to deal with the Bible's influence on American culture,” Superintendent Steven Saldivar said.
