Two killed in separate accidents

At least two people were killed Wednesday afternoon in a pair of traffic accidents involving tractor trailers, as law enforcement officials investigate crashes on Interstate Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 350.

The first accident was reported near the intersection of U.S. Highway 350 and Piper Road shortly after noon. Lois Rhoton, 84, of Big Spring was pronounced dead at Scenic Mountain Medical Center by Justice of the Peace Bennie Green approximately an hour after the accident, according to law enforcement officials.

A second accident was reported at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Interstate Highway 20 near the 172 mile marker, according to Midland Department of Public Safety Communications Officer Regina Sutton. According to the DPS accident report, Gary Blake Truitt, 56, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at approximately 3 p.m. at the scene of the one-vehicle accident.
