COLORADO CITY — A pair of witnesses identified by investigators Monday morning have apparently led officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety to believe 13-year-old Hailey Dunn is alive and in hiding, according to unconfirmed reports.
Hailey Darlene Dunn, an eighth grade student at Colorado Middle School, was last seen walking from her home in northern Colorado City to a friend's house about 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, according to reports issued by Interim Colorado City Police Chief John Bivins.
Since Dunn's disappearance gained national attention, searches have been conducted all over Colorado City, as well as the area between it and Dunn, which is located north of Colorado City. According to investigators involved with the case, at least nine agencies — including the FBI and Secret Service — totaling more than 30 law enforcement officers, are currently working on the investigation.
In a report from the Abilene Reporter News Monday, DPS Senior Trooper Sparky Dean and Colorado City manager Pete Kampfer met with students at Colorado Middle School during the morning hours. The pair questioned students on Dunn's disappearance, as well as a new lead the teen had been spotted with two other teens in the 200 block of Manuel Street on either Dec. 26 or Dec. 27, possibly moments before she vanished.
