Splishin' and a splashin' will be taking place at 5, 6 and 10 Under West Texas Skies.
The Big Spring Family Aquatic Center will be the setting for the 2012 Newswest 9 Under West Texas Skies wrap up. The events are set to start at 4 p.m. Friday 20 and continue until 10 p.m.
“For the past several years, we have been the last stop on the week-long journey and this year we are wrapping things up on the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts,” Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debbye ValVerde said.
Those wanting to attend the event can take part in several ways. There will be hot dog and ice cream eating contests sponsored by Sonic. An ugly dog contest will also take place. The YMCA will have a bounce house set up and will be providing different activities inside the aquatic center and outside the facility.
“For those who want to come out and enjoy the festivities but don't want to go inside the aquatic center, there is still going to be plenty to do,” Debbie Wegman, Convention and Visitors Bureau director said.
Admission to the aquatic center will be the same as usual and patrons will be expected to follow the same rules. The attire code will be the same and concessions will be available.
“We want everyone to come out and enjoy,” Wegman said.
ValVerde added, “We want people to bring their blankets and lawn chairs and come out and enjoy the activities.”
Read Them a Riot — local resident Chris Mason's band — will be performing at the aquatic center from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a preview taking place at 6 p.m.
“This is just one more way to promote Big Spring and Howard County,” ValVerde said.
