October 12, 2012

Lloyd Underwood and Bo Spradling were the top honorees at the Chamber of Commerce's Ag Appreciation Luncheon at the Dora Roberts Community Center.

Underwood was named agricultural producer of the year, while Spradling, owner of Triple AG, was selected as the agricultural businessman of the year.

The chamber annually holds the luncheon to honor “the many things the men and women of the agricultural community do for our area,” Chamber President Jan Foresyth said.

Underwood, who grew up in Luther, has farmed in this are for more than 50 years. He is a Big Spring High School and Texas Tech University graduate and served a tour in the National Guard.

He has served on the We-Tex Telephone Coop board for 35 years and is active in Howard County FSA County Committee, the county SCS board, county fair board and the county Farm Bureau board. In addition, he has served as a deacon at First Baptist Church and is active in the United Way.

Spradling, a native of Spur, worked as a diesel mechanic for several farm implement businesses before opening Triple AG in 2000.

“He has had job offers frequently with huge amounts of money promised, but continues to want to serve his community here in Big Spring,” presenter Ronnie Wood said. “People can trust to have the best job done at at fair price at Triple AG.”

Keynote speaker during the luncheon was Dr. John Outlaw of Texas A&M University, who briefed attendees on the progress of this year's agriculture bill.
