United Way of Big Spring and Howard County announced its goal for the 2012 campaign Saturday night at the Boots and Bling event held at the Big Spring Country Club.

This year the 23-member-board is aiming to reach a goal of $275,000. Last year the goal was set at $250,000 and, through the help of board members and contributions from the community, was surpassed.

Since the goal was exceeded, the United Way was able to provide its 15 member agencies with bonus checks, which were presented at Boots and Bling. On top of bonus checks being presented, two board members were also recognized for their service to the community and support of United Way. Manny Negron, board member, was recognized for his contributions and enthusiasm he has shown since he became part of the United Way board.

“He hasn't lived here long, moving here in 2006, but he has been very involved in the community. It seems he is always dropping by or giving us a call wondering how he can help out,” outgoing executive director Jeanie Coor said.
