United Way of Big Spring and Howard County is ready to slip on its boots and bling for the 2012 campaign.
Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Big Spring Country Club the United Way will kick off the campaign with a night of live music, a silent auction, cash bar and heavy hor d'oeuvres.
“It doesn't matter if you put on your tuxedo, a sundress or your boots and jeans. The main thing is to come out and support these agencies,” said Jeanie Coor, former United Way executive director.
The 2012 campaign officially begins Sept. 1 and will run through Nov. 18, with funds being designated and distributed to the agencies next year. This year, the United Way is supporting 15 agencies: American Red Cross of Southwest Texas, Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scouts of America, CASA of West Texas, Dora Roberts Rehabilitation Center, Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, Howard County Council on Aging Mobile Meals, Howard County Humane Society, Isaiah 58, Northside Community Center, Rape Crisis/Victim Services of Big Spring, The Salvation Army, Westside Community Day Care Center, YMCA of Big Spring and the two new agencies — Big Spring Chaplains Association and Spring of Siloam.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the United Way office, located at 215 W. Third St. or from a board member.
