United Way makes last push for funds

Although Monday marked the official end of the United Way of Big Spring and Howard County 2013 campaign, officials are making one last big push to collect donations before the allocation process to the 17 area agencies begins.

“We are currently at 50 percent of our goal,” said Sandy Stewart, United Way executive director. “We are trying to wrap up and get the monies in. Money is still coming in. Based on last year’s numbers, we should get close to what we made last year but maybe not quite as much.”

Officials kicked off the 69th annual campaign in August setting a $330,000 goal this year, up $30,000 from the 2012 campaign. There is still time to contribute to the campaign since funds are allocated to the agencies in mid-January, but Stewart also added a plea not to wait any longer.
