VAMC tree lighting Saturday
Officials with the Big Spring VA Medical Center are inviting the community to help kick off the Christmas season Friday, Dec. 2, as the local healthcare provider will hold its annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony.Daniel L. Marsh, medical center director for the West Texas VA Health Care System, assisted by area children, will throw the switch on the VA Medical Center's holiday lights, according to VA officials.“This is something we look forward to each year,” said Iva Jo Hanslik, public affairs officer for the local VA Medical Center. “Anyone who has been to or by the VA during the holidays will tell you, the lights are something very special to everyone in Big Spring, and we really enjoy being able to be a part of the holiday joy.”Hanslik said the fun doesn't stop with the lights, which will not only illuminate the Christmas tree located inside the medical center's lobby, but also much of the facility's outside, as well.“Santa Claus will be taking time out of his busy schedule to be with us,” Hanslik said. “He'll be there to visit with all of the children. Refreshments will be served, as well. We hope everyone in the community will come out and be a part of this wonderful celebration.”The lighting is set to take place at 6 p.m. at the VA Medical Center, located at 300 Veterans Blvd. For more information, contact Hanslik at 432-264-4824.
