Varnell D, Pierce, 86, of Winters died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, in Big Spring, Texas.
He was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Winters, Texas to Johnnie L. and Dessie Mae Bowen Pierce. He attended school in Winters and later served in the U.S. Army's 11th Airborne Division and served in occupied Japan. He married Alma Lou Tatum on January 4, 1948 in Winters, Texas.
He worked for Halliburton fo 34 years, serving in various capacities, and retired after 34 years as a Field Supervisor. Varnell and his wife lived in Big Spring, Kermit and Monahans, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winters, Texas.
He enjoyed being with his family and loved to fish and hunt. He was a task master when it came to his job and he was a loving and devoted husband and father. He adored his three grandchildren, Justin Pierce of Odessa, Sandra Gainey Dunbar and husband Rick of Dallas and Dr. Paige Gainey of Lubbock.
Survivors include his wife Alma Pierce, currently of Big Spring; one son, Terrell Pierce and LaNell Webb of Odessa; a daughter Brenda Pierce Gainey and husband Ronnie of Big Spring; one sister, Nadine Kute; and sisters-in -law Annie Bell Pierce Loretta Pierce.
He was preceded in death by Willie Ray Pierce, Jack Pierce and Vollie Dee Pierce.
Visitation will be Thursday Nov. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and services will be Thursday Nov. 7, 2013, at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Winters, Texas, with burial following in Northview Cemetery.
