Velma Campbell, 82, of Big Spring was surrounded by her family as she passed to her heavenly home Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born April 24, 1930, to Jewell and Orville Gressett in Sterling County, Texas. She grew up in Broom and has been in Big Spring most of her life.
Velma married Charles W. Campbell Sr. on Oct. 1, 1955, in Big Spring, Texas. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1988. She was an avid bowler, loved taking care of her yard, playing cards and going gambling with her friends and family. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 30 years.
Velma is survived by two sons, Charlie Campbell and wife Diana and David Campbell and wife Peggy, all of Big Spring; one brother, Phillip Gressett and wife Faye of Brownwood; a brother-in-law, Gene Campbell and wife Mary Jane of Abilene; two grandsons, Aaron and Austin Josey of McGregor; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Campbell Sr. on June 7, 1993; and one granddaughter, Le Ann Pesek on July 27, 2011.
Pallbearers will be Shane Gressett, Mike Leuschner, G.T. Miller, Gary Gressett, Ricky Adams and Gene Froman.
