Ventura G. “Raymond” Martinez, 65, of Knott died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at his residence. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will follow at Ackerly Cemetery.
He was born July 14, 1946, in Charcas San Luis, Potosi to Matilia and Isabel H. Martinez. He has been a resident of Knott for more than 40 years, where he was a farmer. He married Elvira Cerna on Jan. 31, 1973, in Lovington, N.M. He most recently pastured Templo Central De Alabanza Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elvira Martinez of Knott; children, Ernesto Rivera of Knott, Rudy Rivera, Robert Rivera and wife Rosie, Jeannie Fonseca, Frankie Hernandez, Jesus C. Hernandez and wife Jo Ann R, Max Hernandez and wife Adela, all of Big Spring, Liz Hernandez of Knott, Carol Vensus and husband Jose of Weatherford, Patsy Chavez and husband Pablo of Garden City, Jose Hernandez and wife Marcie of Big Spring, Adam Hernandez and wife Sandra of Ackerly, Rebecca Rivera of Knott and Cruz Martinez of Georgia; 51 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Jesus Martinez and wife Maria of Big Spring, Fidel Martinez and wife Maria of Mexico and Chano Martinez of Mexico; sisters: Louisa Zavala and wife Antonio of Big Spring, Julia Hernandez and husband Pedro of Mexico, and Natalia Martinez of Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Salvador Martinez.
