Vernon Parnell

Vernon Parnell, 71, of Big Spring died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Mount Olive Memorial Park with military honors. The Rev. Mona Lue Tonn, pastor of Spring Tabdernacle, will be officiating.

He was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Calvin, Okla., to Lillie and Oscar Parnell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He owned Parnell’s Salvage and also transported and installed mobile homes for many years. He had been a resident of Howard County for 40 years. He married Shirley Garrett on Sept. 6, 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Parnell of Big Spring; three daughters, Brenda Willadsen and husband Mike of Big Spring, Cindy Rawls and husband Randy of Abilene and Donna Pennwright and husband Dennis of Longview; one son, Heath Garrett and wife Nickea of Big Spring; three sisters, Virginia Harris, Mary Lou Lewis and Patricia Fitzpatrick, all of Oklahoma; four brothers, Oscar Parnell, Phillip “Butch” Parnell, James Parnell and Jimmy Parnell and wife Sherry, all of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Parnell; and one son, Ricky Parnell.
