Vernon Permenter, 63, of Big Spring, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Mount Olive Memorial Park with Dr. Doug Shelley, pastor of East Side Baptist Church, officiating.

He was born June 14, 1949, in Snyder, Texas to Oma Mildred (Foree) and Vernon William Permenter. He worked as a pulling unit operator in the oil field. He had served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 1st Calvary Division. He was a radio operator in the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol and a Purple Heart recipient during the Vietnam Era. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Beebe Permenter of Big Spring; one son, Daniel Permenter of Big Spring; three daughters, Donna Dugger and Ann Young, both of Big Spring, and Jean Noggler of Abilene; six grandchildren; one brother, Earl Permenter of Big Spring; one sister, Colleen Huttegger of Live Oak, Texas; and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jimmy Young.
