Veterans honored

November 12, 2013

With prayer, song and food, Howard County gave thanks to its veterans Monday.

This year's Veteran's Day Ceremony — co-hosted by Howard College and the local VA Medical Center at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum — provided a solemn and sincere forum for Howard County residents to say thanks to those who have served in the military.

“From Bunker Hill to Baghdad, we are their beneficiaries,” ceremony emcee John Fisher said of the debt owed to our veterans.

VAMC Chief of Staff Dr. Raul Zambrano, the event's featured speaker, tried to put that debt into perspective.

“We should all show the utmost respect to the men and women who offered themselves up to serve our country,” Zambrano said. “All veterans have given something to the community — and some have given all. We should be in awe at the debt owed to these remarkable veterans."
