“We were sluggish in the first half,” said Buffs Head Coach Terry McDonald. “We just played a lot smarter and executed our offense better in the second half. We came out of the locker room, moved the ball around and got into our transition game, too.”
Forsan outcored Iraan 19-7 in the third period, giving the Buffs a 38-27 advantage heading into the final frame. Iraan put together a little run, but Forsan hit key free throws down the stretch to seal the deal.
“We shot 65 percent from the foul line,” McDonald raved. “That was very key for us late in the game and helped us win.”
Adam Bailey led the Buffs with 16 points and was complimented by 13 points from Jeremy Robbins and 11 points from Cameron Parker. Blake Grantham chipped in eight points.
“We had really good, balanced scoring,” McDonald noted. “It’s nice to have three guys in double figures and another essentially there. Like I said, we did a really good job of moving the ball and spreading it around.”
The win improves the Buffs to 22-4 as they prepare to face Plains Friday. The game serves as an opportunity for Forsan to see some athletes from a new rival in its football district as well as a chance to win an area title.
“We’re getting to have a preview of our new opponents in both football and basketball for next year and that’s nice,” McDonald said.
