STANTON — The four year wait for a new county library in Stanton is almost over, as volunteers and county employees get ready to shuffle books to the new facility Saturday.
“Actually the move has been going on for a matter of weeks with the books that are not checked out as often being moved and shelved in the new facility,” said spokesman A.L. Bud Lindsey. “Saturday morning volunteers and county employees will commence the task of pulling from the shelves the remaining titles from the old library and transporting them to the new building.”
Lindsey said patrons of the new Martin County Library will find the facility much more spacious than the old location.
“The new and much larger library is located near the post office, Methodist church and the Ford dealership in downtown Stanton,” said Lindsey. “The new library is about four times the size of the current one and will have space for more computers, as well as more elbow and meeting room.”
With a formal grand opening slated for Sunday, April 6 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Lindsey said area residents have plenty to be proud of.
“It’s been about four years in the planning and construction, but the wait is almost over,” said Lindsey. “The citizens of Martin County and the surrounding areas are invited to attend the formal opening. The library will re-open for business March 31. We figure it will take that long to get all of the books in and the computers ready to go.”
