“While many Members of Congress talked about reducing the size of government last year, Congressman Randy Neugebauer, the Representative of the 19th Congressional District of Texas, backed up his words by his votes,” NTU President Duane Parde said. “This award proves that Congressman Neugebauer is a staunch ally we can count on in our battle to restore fiscal responsibility to Washington.”
The award is presented to those members who achieve an “A” grade in NTU’s annual Rating of Congress. The rating, which is based on every roll call vote affecting fiscal policy, assigns a “Taxpayer Score” to each member of Congress who indicates his or her support for reducing or controlling federal spending, taxes, debt and regulation. For 2007, a total of 427 House votes were analyzed.
When notified of his selection, Neugebauer commented, “It is a true honor to be recognized by such a prestigious group that never strays from their devotion to smaller government and reducing the high tax burden placed upon American citizens. I have promised my constituents I will be fiscally responsible and fight to ensure they keep more of their hard earned money because I know they are far more capable than government bureaucrats of spending it wisely. I am honored to accept this award and promise to continue my fight in Congress for fiscal responsibility. I will work to reduce taxes, including eliminating the death tax once and for all and keeping the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent, and continue to work with my colleagues to cut wasteful federal spending, being better stewards of the taxpayers’ money. “
“Congressman Neugebauer’s pro-taxpayer score of 85 percent was one of the best in the entire House,” Parde said. “By consistently voting to reduce federal spending, taxes, and debt, he has led by example in the fight to ease the burden on taxpayers everywhere. This is an achievement for which he should be proud.
“If every Member of Congress had voted as responsibly as Congressman Randy Neugebauer did in 2007, Americans could have enjoyed much lower taxes and less waste in government,” Parde concluded. “Overburdened taxpayers in Texas and across the nation owe Congressman Neugebauer a debt of gratitude for his hard work on their behalf. He has truly earned the distinction of the ‘Taxpayers’ Friend.’”
