“I am very pleased to announce the opening of Lone Star State Bank in Big Spring,” said Ron Brooks, president of the Big Spring office. “This is a very exciting opportunity for me to provide high quality, West Texas service to my customers. We are rejoining some of our banking colleagues from this area and we look forward to reuniting with our local development board members. We are West Texas owned with a West Texas flavor.”

The new bank will have a commercial focus, with state-of -the-art management services and other amenities catering to business customers. For its permanent location, the bank anticipates closing on a property on E. FM 700 within the next 30 days.

“This is a new bank, but we’re all longtime West Texas bankers and we have deep roots here,” said Alan Lackey, CEO of the bank’s holding company. “We are excited to be in Big Spring. Our most important job will be to take care of customers from Big Spring and the surrounding area.”

Other Lone Star offices are located in Lubbock and Odessa.

The bank’s holding company, Lone Star Bancshares Inc., is capitalized with $25,750,000 exclusively from West Texas investors. The Lubbock and Odessa offices opened in December 2007. Since then, Lone Star has grown to $135 million in total assets.

Big Spring personnel joining Brooks are Genia Andrews, banking officer; Jo Etta Hart, new accounts representative; and Jacque Moore, teller.

Lobby hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

My family has lived in Big Spring for 31 years. This last Thursday my mother, Geri York and I had to go out of town for some doctors appts. We stopped at the very last gas station as you leave town heading to Midland. I think it is a Shell Sation. We had to get a gallon of water to add to my truck. We purchased the water and before we could even get it into the truck we had two seperate men ask if we needed any help. This is the reason we live in Big Spring and West Texas!!

The greed of the people in Big Spring has become unbelievable since shortly after the refinery explosion! Now that there is an influx of out-of-towners the supply and demand of housing is being strained. Rent has suddenly doubled (or more) and "trailer parks" are popping up all over to help accomodate. All these good ol' boys are lining their pockets on opportunity presented by tragedy and it makes me sick. Not only are they raping the newcomers for their money, but those of us who have lived here for years haven't suddenly come into a lot of money. We still work regular jobs with regular pay. Now we can't even afford to live in our own town because of the greed of all these opportunists!
