The Big Spring Area Chamber of Comerce, Howard College and Big Spring Workforce Network will be teaming up to give employers — and potential employees — a chance to match skills to jobs.
“We’re encouraging all employers to be a part of this job fair,” said Debbye ValVerde, executive director of the Chamber. “The cost to participate is $50 and that includes a covered table with two chairs at the fair. We’re also encouraging anyone who is looking for a job to come and bring a resume. Dress up and put your best foot — and smile — forward. You never know, you may get a job interview right there on the spot.”
ValVerde said the fair will begin at 3 p.m. in the coliseum’s East Room, and is expected to wrap up around 6 p.m.
“This is an excellent opportunity, not just for people who are out of work or looking to enter the job market, but for those that are currently employed but want a better job,” said ValVerde. “It gives you the opportunity to talk to someone from that field and get a feel for what that particular job opportunity is like.
Carla Gross, assistant area manager for Workforce Solutions Permian Basin, said the fair presents a unique opportunity for both employers and job seekers.
“Job seekers can go from table to table, filling out applications,” said Gross. “And the employers we have participating are some of the better paying employers in the Howard County area. This is an excellent opportunity for area job seekers to see what’s out there.
“The employers get to meet the job seekers face to face and visit with them one on one during the fair, and I believe that’s a very big factor in this. They’re able to talk to the job seeker and make sure they will match up with the culture of their workplace.”
