The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:

• JOEL FLORES, 26, of 2522 Langley, was arrested Sunday on a charge of burglary of a building.

• ROBERT DIAZ JR., 25, of 1111 Ridgeroad, was arrested Sunday on charges of public intoxication and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

• CHARLES BRYANT, 48, of 1111 Johnson, was arrested Sunday on a charge of criminal mischief/family violence.

• ERNEST CLARK, 67, of 4000 W. Highway 80, was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.

• ALEJANDRO RAMIREZ, 58, transient, was arrested Sunday on charges of public intoxication and possession of marijuana – two ounces or less.

• THEFT was reported in the 2500 block of Gunter; 200 block of FM 700; 1100 block of Lamesa; and the 1100 block of Gregg Street.

• TERRORISTIC THREAT was reported in the 200 block of Marcy.

• GRAFFITI was reported in the 4000 block of Dixon.

• ASSAULT BY CONTACT was reported in the 700 block of 11th Street; 1900 block of Highway 87; and the 1000 block of Third Street.

• POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA was reported in the 700 block of 15th Street.

• BURGLARY OF A BUILDING was reported in the 200 block of 11th Street; and the 4800 block of Highway 80.

• UNLAWFULLY CARRYING A WEAPON was reported in the 4800 block of Highway 80.

• UNATTENDED DEATH was reported in the 1600 block of Martin Luther King Blvd.

• POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA – TWO OUNCES OR LESS was reported in the area of Bell Street and 14th Street.

• CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 2300 block of Carl; and the 1800 block of Aylesford.

• CAPITAL MURDER – MULTIPLE was reported in the 900 block of 16th Street.

• BURGLARY OF A VEHICLE was reported in the 200 block of FM 700.

• ASSAULT CLASS C/FAMILY VIOLENCE was reported in the 2600 block of Ent.

 

The Howard County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity:

Note — Officials with the Howard County Jail reported having 59 inmates at the time of this report.

• STEVE RODRIQUEZ, 26, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on a motion to revoke probation for driving while license invalid.

• FRED ALLEN PERRY, 43, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on charges of bail jumping/failure to appear, bondsman off bond for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction or suspension and possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.

• JOSE ANGE VASQUEZ-HERNANDEZ, 35, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on a charge of failure to appear.

• JAMES EVERETTE ROBERTS, 39, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on a charge of evading arrest/detention with a vehicle.

• LAWRENCE DAVID ZWICK, 39, was arrested Friday by the HCASO on a motion to revoke probation for possession of marijuana – two ounces or less and a capias warrant for possession of marijuana – two ounces or less.

• MORGAN LOPEZ, 26, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on a charge of robbery.

• DAVID GRIJALBA MORALES, 31, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on charges of evading arrest/detention and unlawful possession of firearm by a felon.

• TAMALA KAY CALHOUN, 44, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on a charge of driving while license invalid/suspended – enhanced.

• FERMIN LOPEZ FLOREZ JR., 57, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on charges of bail jumping/failure to appear – felony (two counts).

• SHAWNTINA MARIE THORPE, 40, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on a charge of bondsman off bond for theft by check.

• GARY LEON JETTON, 54, was arrested Friday by the HCSO on a charge of public intoxication.

• PIERRE JE'AN GORDON, 17, was transferred to the county jail Friday by the BSPD on charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance (two counts).

• LESLIE OSBURN SCROGGINS, 29, was arrested Saturday by the HCSO on a charge of theft by check.

• KIRK EVAN FOWLER, 29, was arrested Saturday by DPS on a charge of driving while intoxicated – open container.

• JASON CESARIO LUERA, 23, was arrested Saturday by the HCSO on a charge of indecency with a child – sexual contact.

• HEATHER NICOLE GULLEY, 31, was arrested Sunday by DPS on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a passenger under 15 years of age.

• JENNIFER DELEON, 20, was transferred to the county jail Sunday by the BSPD on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

• SALENA MARIE TAYLOR, 28, was transferred to the county jail Sunday by the BSPD on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

• COREY HARRIS, 27, was transferred to the county jail Sunday by the BSPD on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

• DAVID TERRELL WARD JR., 17, was transferred to the county jail Sunday by the BSPD on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

• QUINCY LAMAR HENRY, 19, was transferred to the county jail Sunday by the BSPD on charges of bondsman off bond for failure to identify – giving false information, possession of a controlled substance and failure to identify – giving false information.


The Big Spring Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services reported the following activity:

• TRAUMA was reported in the 1000 block of S. Main. Service refused.

• TRAUMA was reported in the 900 block of S. Gregg Street. Service refused.

• TRAUMA was reported in the 1000 block of W. Third Street. Service refused.

• MEDICAL was reported in the 1300 block of Kindle. One person was transported to SMMC.

• MEDICAL was reported in the 3200 block of Parkway. One person was transported to SMMC.

• TRAUMA was reported in the 200 block of Marcy. One person was transported to SMMC.

• MEDICAL was reported in the 1700 block of Highway 350. Service refused.

• TRAFFIC ACCIDENT was reported in the area of Ninth Street and Gregg. Service refused.

• TRAUMA was reported in the 800 block of E. 16th Street. One person was transported to SMMC.

• MEDICAL was reported in the 5000 block of Wasson. One person was transported to SMMC.

 My family has lived in Big Spring for 31 years. This last Thursday my mother, Geri York and I had to go out of town for some doctors appts. We stopped at the very last gas station as you leave town heading to Midland. I think it is a Shell Sation. We had to get a gallon of water to add to my truck. We purchased the water and before we could even get it into the truck we had two seperate men ask if we needed any help. This is the reason we live in Big Spring and West Texas!!

The greed of the people in Big Spring has become unbelievable since shortly after the refinery explosion! Now that there is an influx of out-of-towners the supply and demand of housing is being strained. Rent has suddenly doubled (or more) and "trailer parks" are popping up all over to help accomodate. All these good ol' boys are lining their pockets on opportunity presented by tragedy and it makes me sick. Not only are they raping the newcomers for their money, but those of us who have lived here for years haven't suddenly come into a lot of money. We still work regular jobs with regular pay. Now we can't even afford to live in our own town because of the greed of all these opportunists!
