Maria R. Martinez, 88, of Coahoma, died Friday, May 9, 2008, in a Sterling City nursing home. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Coahoma with Father Bernard Gulley officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery in Coahoma.

She was born Nov.10, 1919, in Casa Piedra, Texas, and married Fortino Martinez on March 17, 1938, in Midland. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1986.

She was a very loving person and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Coahoma and was also a member of the Crucillistas and the Guadalupanas.

Survivors include one son, Manuel Martinez Sr. and wife Guadalupe of Coahoma; seven grandchildren, Jose Luis Martinez and wife Monica, Elizabeth Flores and husband Johnny, Auggie Martinez and wife April, Dolores Franco and Robert Martinez and fiance Yvette Denton, all of Big Spring, Manuel Martinez Jr. and wife Lori of Coahoma and Amelia Panciera and husband Paul of Connecticut; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Pallbearers are Shane Martinez, Ray Franco, Sergio Martinez, Stefan Martinez, Jason Martinez and John Ethan Flores.

Honorary pallbearers are Aaron Martinez, A.J. Martinez and Alex and Adam Franco.
