To the Editor: I am writing this letter to let Big Spring home owners that rent out property know how most of us residents feel about the outrageous prices of rent. I looked in the paper the other day and couldn't believe what I saw — a two-bedroom trailer for rent for $2,000. I was waiting for the punch line to be underneath the add. There was no punch line and was not a joke.
I can't believe that Big Spring has become as greedy as it has. We are a town that should be helping each other out in a time of need. The people who have come to our town to help rebuild our refinery and economy have been slapped in the face with outrageous rent prices and sky high motel fees. These people did not have to take on this job to help us recuperate, but they did. I am embarrassed at how you people are taking advantage of them. Even the residents that are permanently here and reside here can't afford to live a normal life because of the shortage of houses and sky high prices. It's really sad that our community has turned on our fellow residents and newcomers. I always have thought of this town as a close and friendly town. I have changed my mind for the most part now. Yes, we still have a lot of residents and business owners that are good people and welcome others with open arms and same prices as always, but to those that have become greedy, this is what I have to say to you: For shame, for shame. Remember how you treat thy neighbor. You may be treated the same way when you're in need. That can't be good.
