Robert 'Bob' Leon Moody

Robert “Bob” Leon Moody, 71, of Big Spring died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo after a brief bout with cancer and a long illness from Parkinson’s disease. Services are at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kelly Conkling officiating.

Visitation will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cremation to be held later.

Mr. Moody was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Jefferson. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1955 and Texas A&M University in 1960, where he served in the Corps of Cadets. For the next 11 years, Mr. Moody served his country as an officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major. He continued his service as a member of the United States Army Reserve until he retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Moody was employed by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, first in the regional office in Waco and then as a field officer in Big Spring for 17 years. He retired March 31, 2002, after dedicating 40 years of service to the government of the United States of America. He was an Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Katherine Moody of Big Spring; two sons, John Moody of Big Spring and SSG David Moody of Fort Riley, Kan.; one daughter, Lyndel Moody of Big Spring; and his brother, John. W. Moody Jr. of Big Spring.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wade and Myra Lyndell Moody, owners of the Moody Sandwich Shop in Jefferson.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be given to the Buffalo Trail Council Boy Scouts of America, 1101 West Texas Avenue, Midland 79701-6171; the American Cancer Society, c/o Carolyn Brooks, P.O. Box 2121, Big Spring 79721-2121; or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church of Big Spring, 1001 Goliad, Big Spring 79720.
