Music and more music. It's not all you'll find at this year's Funtastic Fourth Festival in downtown Big Spring but there's no doubt it will be abundant.
“We're proud to announce that Shane and Shane will be the featured act this year. Opening for them will be Crimson Soul. We'll also have the winner of the knockout round for the West Texas Region of Rock the Desert,” said Alan Johnson, a member of the Downtown Revitalization Committee, which is putting on the Funtastic Fourth Festival for the seventh straight year.
As the feature acts indicate, this year's theme will be God and Country, an idea which was begun last year and will be the course for years to come.
Those acts won't be the only ones performing at the festival.
“We'll have live music from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.,” said Johnson, who added that a complete schedule of performers will be released prior to the July 4 celebration.
That's not all, of course. Food and vendor booths will line the streets around Heart of the City Park. There will be lots of children's activities — water slides, train rides, horseback riding, inflatables and much more.
It's not too late, by the way, to have a booth at the fair.
“We're looking for sponsors. Booth space is available,” said Johnson. “Our food booths are $100 and limited to a total of 25. Craft booths will be available for $50. Non-profit organizations can set up an informational booth for $25.”
Johnson said the community event is designed to be fun for the entire family, and to get everyone celebrating God and Country.
“Our goal is to get all the local churches, youth groups and non-profit organizations involved,” he said.
In addition to the other activities, a talent show is planned, coordinated by Clint Collins at Life Church or Jim Kerber. The only requirement to try out for the show is to stay within the theme of God and Country.
