By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer With construction of the new county jail going smoothly, Howard County commissioners will have the chance to focus on other matters during their Monday morning meeting, including a possible change in its liability insurance provider.
According to County Judge Mark Barr, commissioners are expected to discuss going out on bid for insurance services — liability and workman's compensation coverage — that are currently being provided by the Texas Association of Counties. “We're just going to discuss the possibility of going out on bid for it right now,” said Barr. “We'll just have to see where the discussion goes.” Also on Monday's agenda, commissioners are expected to consider: • Invoices and purchase requests. • Consider the sale of county vehicles and award bids on the sale of county vehicles. • Budget work session. • Personnel considerations. • Consider Texas County and District Retirement System plan provisions for 2009. • Pipeline crossings and a report on county road maintenance. • Possible tax abatement for Luxury Inn. • Real estate taxes. • Discussion and possible action on a resolution for Schleicher County. • Discussion and possible action on a resolution concerning capital murder.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the commissioner's courtroom, located on the second floor of the Howard County Courthouse. Contact Staff Writer Thomas Jenkins at 263-7331 ext. 232 or by e-mail at
