By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer A pair of Big Spring men were indicted Thursday on charges stemming from a stolen truck that was set afire at a location on Gail Highway, as a Howard County grand jury handed down 12 indictments on eight people. Miguel Calixto Jr., 20, of 1611 State St., and Quentin Lee Little, 20, currently in Howard County Jail, were both indicted on charges of criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for their part in the March 11 incident.
According to HCSO Chief Deputy Mark Hall, the pair are accused of stealing a brown Chevrolet Z71 pickup from a residence on S. Highway 87. “We received a report of a vehicle fire on Gail Highway the morning of March 11,” said Hall. “We responded, along with the fire department. Shortly after the fire was reported, the owner of the vehicle reported it missing. “We investigated the incident for possible insurance fraud, but found nothing to indicate that’s what had happened. The truck was a total loss, but it wasn’t completely destroyed and we were able to recover evidence from the wreckage.” Also arrested during the investigation were Shane Allen Knowlton, 21, and Cassandra Kathleen Villa, 18, according to Hall, who also said the motivation for the crime was revenge. “It looks like revenge was the motive for the theft of the vehicle and the arson,” said Hall shortly after Calixto's arrest in April. Both charges are state jail felonies. Also indicted by the grand jury were: • Cherie Machelle Little Hannabass, 38, of 505 Nolan, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (state jail felony). • Joshua Hernandez, 22, of Lubbock, evading arrest (state jail felony). • Nichundra Louise Holloway, of 2514 Dow, forgery (state jail felony). • Mark Leslie Kirby, 34, of 801 W. Marcy Apt. 8, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (state jail felony) and driving while intoxicated (third-degree felony). • Johnny Larry Merrick, 62, of Ackerly, driving while intoxicated (third-degree felony). • James Everette Roberts, 39, currently in Midland County Jail per pre-trial bonding, forgery (third-degree felony enhanced) and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (third-degree felony enhanced).
