Sales Tax Receipts Up 32 Percent Here

Big Spring and most of the surround areas had significant increases when compared to last year's receipts, according to the State Comptroller's Office.

The city accepted $531,055.46 this month, compared to $402,268.71 in July of 2007 — a difference of 32.01 percent. For the year, Big Spring has taken in $3,323,247.34, up 6.28 percent.

Coahoma took in $11,089.55 this month, down 34.52 percent when compared to the $16,937.91 received a year ago. So far in 2008, Coahoma has received $66,120.00, down 11.58 percent.

Forsan took a 27.87 percent loss, compared this months totals of $5,590.44 with last July's totals of $7,750.82. For the year, Forsan has received $44,801.09, down 9.17 percent.

In Abilene, however, sales tax revenues increased. The Key City received $2,722,623.19 this month, up 3.34 percent when compared to the $2,634,160.50 received in July 2007. For the year, Abilene has taken in $19,443,996.68, up 1.59 percent.

Andrews had a good month, receipt-wise. That city took in $323,463.03, up 17.58 percent compared to the $275,077.72 received in July 2007. For the year, Andrews has received $2,126,752.14, up 14.73 percent.

Colorado City saw receipts increase 5.38 percent, comparing the $43,993.53 received this month to the $41,745.23 received at this time a year ago. For 2008, the Mitchell County seat has taken in $323,078.68, up 3.78 percent.

Revenues were up 22.38 percent in Fort Stockton, which compared this July's intake of $203,736.47 to July 2007's receipts of $166,470.45. For the year, Fort Stockton has received $1,609,896.88, up 38.47 percent.

Lubbock brought in $3,825,714.15 this month. That's up 7.72 percent, compared to the $3,551,283.34 taken in for July 2007. For the year, Lubbock has received $28,059,788.84, up 4.16 percent.

Midland received $3,140,306.74 this month, up 8.62 percent when compared to the $2,890,955.59 taken in during July 2007. Through the first seventh months of the year, Midland has received $21,355,375.69, up 10.37 percent.

Monahans took in $129,993.48 in July, up 10.17 percent when compared to the $117,990.11 the city received a year ago. For 2008, Monahans has received $940,298.00, up 16.86 percent.

Sales tax revenue was up 10.34 percent in Odessa, comparing the $1,905,740.57 taken in this month to the $1,727,141.64 taken in during July 2007. For the year, Odessa has received $13,712,711.11, up 9.10 percent.

San Angelo brought in $1,604,052.97, up 3.77 percent when compared to the $1,545,662.70 received during the same month a year ago. For 2008, San Angelo has received $11,158,941.39 up 3.12 percent.

 Snyder received $216,382.14 this month, up 9.39 percent when compared to the $197,792.30 the Scurry County seat received in July 2007. For the year, Snyder has received $1,571,329.16, up 22.56 percent.

Revenues were up 32.92 percent in Stanton, comparing the $26,708.71 taken in this month to the $20,093.09 taken in for July 2008. This year, the Martin County seat has received $204,946.29, up 41.90 percent.
