The announcement was made during the State FFA Convention in Lubbock.
Reagan competed in a multi-step process including a test, interview, writing prompt and speech which was given to more than 10,000 FFA members and guests at the convention this year.
“Reagan is one of only four FFA members from Area II to have reached the runoff election, and one of only two members in the last nearly 40 years to make the traveling team (top two offices in the state),” said Aaron Custer, Coahoma Independent School District ag science teacher and FFA advisor. “This is largely in part because we have the smallest population — even though we cover the most land mass in the state — which gives us the fewest voting delegates.”
Area 11 reaches from El Paso to Abilene and Lubbock to Sonora.
“Reagan not only did great with the popular vote, but won the exam part of the process by more than 30 points for her FFA knowledge and parliamentary procedure knowledge,” said Custer.
Reagan will now serve the Texas FFA, traveling more than 300 days of the next year, educating students all over the state about the FFA in Texas.
Reagan is the first state officer from Coahoma. She was also awarded a $15,000 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship for her achievements and involvement in the FFA.
