Coahoma High School Finishes Hiring Staff
Tuesday, 22 July 2008

Special to the Herald

Monday, July 14, Coahoma High School finished hiring its last faculty and staff members. This ended a summer with an abnormal amount of resignations and departures. However, every member that left expressed that they felt that the job they took was advancement in their careers and that they were happy and proud of the time they'd spent at Coahoma High School.

Stacy Martin was hired to be the head football and track coach and social studies teacher. Coach Martin comes from Comanche High School where he was the defensive coordinator and head track coach. He is a graduate of Big Spring High School, where he was a standout in football and track. He went on to play and coach at Sul Ross State University.

Shane Fuller is the head baseball coach, the varsity assistant football coach and science teacher. Coach Fuller comes from Muleshoe High School, where his 2008 baseball team advanced past bi-district for the first time in the school's history.

Randall Petty has taken over as the head girls' basketball coach, cross country coach, head girls' track coach and special ed. teacher. Coach Petty is a native of Westbrook and has spent the last two years coaching and teaching at Big Spring High School.

Raul Sanchez is the new varsity assistant football, basketball and track coach as well as a social studies teacher. Coach Sanchez has spent the last three years as a varsity assistant at Grape Creek High School.

Derrick Faught was hired as the junior high football coach, varsity assistant basketball coach, head tennis coach and junior high technology teacher. Coach Faught is a graduate of Angelo State University. He graduated from Ozona High School, where he was a standout basketball player, as well as a state qualifier in tennis.

Cassie Petty is the girls' varsity assistant basketball and track coach. Coach Petty is the wife of Randall Petty. She was the head girls' basketball coach for the past several years at Westbrook High School.

Edie Niblett was hired to be the junior high girls' athletics coach and special education teacher at the high school. Coach Niblett comes from Eldorado High School. She has spent the past several years building the girls' junior high program there.

Gayla Paige is the new consumer science teacher at the high school. She comes from Big Spring High School, where she has taught and coached.

These faculty members join Maria Mashburn, who will teach math at the high school, and Josh Kelly, who will teach social studies at the junior high and coach at both the high school and junior high. These members of our faculty were hired earlier this spring.

Coahoma Elementary hired two new faculty members: Melinda Hall and Taylor Osborn.

All employees of Coahoma ISD received a raise.

Enrollment looks to be about the same as the previous year.

Registration dates will be announced soon. Look for school supply lists that can be found on the Coahoma Web site, along with enrollment information.
