Big Spring High School activities literally heat up tonight with the lighting of the bonfire at the city compost facility. BSHS Principal Mike Ritchey said the lighting will occur soon after sunset.
The Homecoming Pep Rally will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Steer Gym, then action will shift to the downtown area for the annual parade, which kicks off at 10th and Main streets at 4:30 p.m., Ritchey said.
Big Spring's Steers will face the Pampa Harvesters in the BSHS Homecoming Game at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. Before the game, the Coming Home Queen — selected from among former BSHS students — will be crowned, while the Homecoming King and Queen — selected from among current students — will be named at halftime.
Voting was held earlier this week for the homecoming queen and king finalists. The following senior girls were elected as the 2008 Homecoming Queen finalists: Baylea Fox, Chelsea Franco, Channing Martin, Crystal Torres and Troasha Walker.
Seniors Chris Brooks, Cameron Hughey, Sidney Parker, Sammy Segundo and Josh Wilson were elected finalists for Homecoming King.
Several classes will hold reunions this weekend at various sites across town, Ritchey added.
The final activity planned for BSHS homecoming will be the Hall of Fame induction of the 2006 Steer Band at 2 p.m. Saturday at the high school. The band, under the direction of Rocky Harris, was the first local group to have the honor of performing in Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Few formal activities are planned for Forsan homecoming, Prinicipal Keith Stone said, but Buffalo Stadium will be the center of attention Friday night when the homecoming queen is crowned at halftime of Forsan's game with Irion County.
The nominees will be escorted by the Duchesses Court, consisting of junior Shelby Jones, sophomore Erica Garrett and freshman Ambra Hill.
Stanton High School had several planned activities throughout the week, starting with Tuesday evening's community pep rally at the Martin County Courthouse.
Prior to the annual homecoming game Friday, the Stanton High School exes will hold a barbecue supper at 5:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Cost is $9 per plate.
On Friday, the Coming Home Queen will be crowned prior to the Buffalos' game with Colorado City. Nominees are Pamela Allred Smith, Kristi Fryar Peterson and Dana Fryar Galaviz.
The homecoming queen will be crowned at halftime. Those nominees are Amber Beasley, Naomi Delao, Josie Fernandez and Rachel Simpson.
