According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the Big Spring Police Department, vehicles at addresses all over the city were attacked by an unknown assailant, causing costly damage that has yet to be tallied.
“They used a BB gun to shoot out the windows of vehicles all over the city,” said Everett. “We know they were mobile to be able to travel over so much of the city, and the damage wasn't just to one neighborhood or area. It literally happened all over the place.
“We don't have an estimate on the damage at this time, and we're still getting reports from people who are just now finding the damage. However, it's going to be expensive. Very, very expensive.”
Everett said investigators have been unable to get a reliable description of the vehicle or the suspect responsible for the mischief.
“That's what we really need right now,” said Everett. “A description of the vehicle, or a license plate number. That's what it's going to take to catch this person or persons. Area residents need to keep a tentative eye out for strange vehicles in their neighborhood. This is happening late at night, so that makes it tough to get a description when most people are sleeping. However, all it takes is a good description or license plate number and we'll have them.”
Everett said reports of broken vehicle windows came in from a number of different neighborhoods Thursday morning, including the 1000 block of Stadium; 400 block of Washington; 2000 block of Merrily; 4000 block of Parkway; 400 block of Dallas; 4000 block of Dixon; 3200 block of Parkway; 500 block of Dallas; 2200 block of Merrily; and the 2100 block of Merrily.
No injuries were reported in association with the vandalism, according to Everett.
