David Hernandez Montez, 40, was charged with aggravated robbery in connection with a holdup at Star Stop No. 14, 4806 W. Highway 80, according to information released by Sgt. Tony Everett, Big Spring Police Department public information officer.
In addition, Montez is a suspect in another armed robbery that occurred Monday at the 7-Eleven convenience store at FM 700 and Birdwell Lane.
Officers responded to the 7-Eleven shortly after 5 a.m. Monday in reference to a robbery call.
Reports state that a Hispanic male subject had fled the scene after demanding money and knocking the clerk to the ground.
The clerk was not seriously injured and the subject fled the store empty handed, Everett noted.
Shortly before 6 a.m. that morning, officers were dispatched to the Star Stop convenience store in reference to an armed robbery.
There, they learned that a Hispanic male had entered the store, went behind the counter and into the office. There, he produced a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.
The suspect then took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.
Using descriptions provided by both clerks, police were able to locate the suspect's unoccupied vehicle at the 800 block of Willia. After a short wait, police spotted Montez entering the vehicle. He was immediately detained, Everett said.
Montez was subsequently identified by the Star Stop clerk as the person who had robbed the establishment and was charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
Further charges in connection with the 7-Eleven robbery will possibly follow, pending witness statements, Everett said.
Montez is in custody in Howard County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
