Saturday, 04 April 2009 |
By STEVE REAGAN Staff Writer The District 4-4A Spring Academic Meet is quickly becoming Big Spring High School's personal playground. BSHS continued its recent trend of domination at Friday's district academics meet at Howard College, amassing 678 points to easily out-distance the competition.
Abilene Cooper was a distant second place with 248 points, while Frenship High School was third (228 points), San Angelo Lake View fourth (212 points) and Plainview High School fifth (61 points). Friday's results marks the fourth time in five years that Big Spring has captured top honors at the district academic meet. More impressively, it is the largest margin of victory for the local students during that span. “We are very proud of our kids,” BSHS Principal Mike Ritchey said. “This is probably the most number of students who have qualified for the regional meet and I think it's the most points we've ever scored at the district meet. “It's a reflection of all the time and work and effort put in by all the kids and their teachers,” Ritchey added. BSHS students who finished in the top three in their respective events qualify for the University Interscholastic League Region 1-4A meet, scheduled for April 17-18 at Angelo State University in San Angelo.
