Two Big Spring residents arrested in connection with a February robbery were among 17 people indicted by the Howard County Grand Jury Thursday.

Lana Dower Martinez, 35, of 1905 Wasson, and Garland Green Jr., 53, of 705 Wyoming, were indicted for robbery for their suspected roles in a hold-up at the Travel Centers of America truck stop.

According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the Big Spring Police Department, the offense was reported shortly after 11 p.m. Feb. 10.

“Officers arrived on the scene and learned that a white female and a black male had robbed the clerk and fled,” said Everett. “The victim said the female suspect approached the counter and displayed a handgun, demanding money. She took an undetermined amount of money and she and the male suspect fled the store in a red vehicle.

“Minutes later Howard County Sheriff's Deputies spotted and stopped a red four-door vehicle matching the clerk's description. The vehicle was occupied by a white female and black male, both matching witnesses' descriptions. They were taken into custody at that time.”

Everett said a search of the vehicle turned up the cash allegedly stolen in the heist.

“Money was recovered from the suspects, but the weapon was not located,” he said.

Robbery is a second degree felony punishable by a term of between two and 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
